Flu clinic update 8/10/20

Flu clinic update 8/10/20

Please note our flu clinics on Saturday 10th October and Saturday 24th October will be held at Coleford Fire Station.

This will be a drive-through clinic so please wear short sleeves. The vaccination will be given in your arm nearest the car window.

Firefighters will be directing traffic, and ensuring any patients arriving on foot are marshalled safely through the system.

Please adhere to your appointment time to minimise traffic congestion.

We would like to thank Coleford Fire Brigade for their help and support.

Flu clinic update 15/9/20

Saturday flu clinics will take place at Brunston Surgery on

19th September (fully booked)

10th October

24th October

In addition to the above dates flu clinics will also be taking place during the week. These are being set up frequently and our receptionists will be able to offer you further information. Patients who are attending the surgery for a face to face appointment with either a nurse, HCA or a GP may be able to receive their flu vaccination at that time  – please raise this at your visit, and if you already have an appointment for a ‘flu clinic’ it can be cancelled.

If you are 65 years of age or over on 31st March 2021 the facility to book your flu vaccination online will be available shortly. If you are aged 18 –  64 years on 31 March 2021 AND are in a high risk group (ie you normally receive a free flu vaccination) please telephone the surgery for an appointment.  We hope to be able to extend the flu vaccination program to our healthy 50 to 64 year olds in November/December depending on vaccination availability.  We will update you on this as soon as we can. Our order for the flu vaccines was made a year ago (before Covid19) and is based on our clinically at risk groups, whom we will prioritise.

Although we do not expect waiting times to be long, there will be limited seating available so, if you feel you will be unable to stand in a queue outside, please phone the surgery and we will try to fit you in during the week.

Type of vaccination

There are 2 types of flu vaccination SEQIRUS aTIV (Adjuvanted Trivalent Influenza Vaccine) for those who are 65 years and over ON OR BEFORE 31/3/2021, and FLUCELVAX® TETRA,  for those aged between 18 and 64 years on 31/3/2021.  Please see the relevant patient information leaflet and please contact us by using the eConsult facility before the day of your appointment if you have any concerns which are not resolved from the links above.

When you come for your vaccination

The safety of patients and staff is very important to us and the process will be different to previous years, to ensure social distancing is maintained wherever possible. There will be additional infection control measures in place.  Our staff, clinical and non-clinical, will be wearing ‘scrubs’, and PPE in accordance with the guidelines we have received from RCGP and NHSE.

  • Wear a mask.
  • DO NOT come if you are feeling unwell.
  • DO NOT arrive more than 5 minutes before your appointment time. You will queue in the car park (in adverse weather conditions we will use a marquee, which the Dean Forest Beekeepers have very kindly agreed to lend us).
  • Wear clothing which allows easy access to your arm as time and private facilities are limited.
  • Come alone if possible
  • Use the hand sanitiser provided before entering the building.
  • DO NOT touch anything unless it is absolutely necessary.
  • Listen to and co-operate with practice staff.
  • The surgery’s phone lines will not be answered. Please do not try to call to cancel your appointment, or for any other queries.

Please park in the public car parks. The surgery car park will be closed as it will be used as a waiting area for patients.

Other things to note;

  • There will be no toilet facilities available.
  • No reception or dispensing services will be available (so you will not be able to make appointments, collect medication, etc)
  • The surgery’s phone lines will not be answered. Please do not try to call to cancel your appointment, or for any other queries.
